Get serious about your goals. Have a real strategy so that you accomplish more than you ever thought you could. This episode is called: Beyond Goal Setting: Creating a Strategy to Get Shit Done. This strategy can apply to both your business and personal goals.

Getting Shit Done


I.  Goal Setting can be easy

      A.  Business goals seem to be easier to achieve than personal

      B.  It's easier to set sub-goals and achievement steps for business


II.  Plan to Achieve is harder

      A.  Set checkpoints or milestones to reaching the goal

      B.  Then set tasks within the milestones as sub-goals

                1.  What do you need to do to get to the goal

                2.  This keeps you feeling that you are achieving rather than feeling the goal is too hard

      C.  Take a high-level approach:  look for the big things

                1.  Where am I now

                2.  Where do I need to be

      D.  Many use a Vision Board to keep goals at top of mind


III. Sticking points

      A.  Can get overwhelmed by not being there yet

      B.  Have a plan or steps lets you feel more successful and able to reach the goal


IV.  When setting goals, create your own movie

       A.  What would happen?  

                1.  Write your script, your goals, and live it

                2.  Give yourself the flexibility to be able to edit as you go

V.   Use WHAT IF thinking

        A.  Prepares you for obstacles, for what can happen

                 1.  IF the obstacle occurs, you will know WHAT to do

MAINPoint also prepares well-known personalities for appearances on national television programs, such as Today, Nightline, Good Morning America and Meet the Press.

EXPERIENCE

Dan spent a great part of his career in the communications field, having served more than ten years as the President & Publisher of the Joplin (MO) Globe, which is one of the largest newspapers in Community Newspaper Holding’s (CNHI) groups of newspapers in the U.S.

Prior to that, Dan held several management positions with Ottaway Newspapers, the community newspaper division of Dow Jones, Inc. He has also worked at communications companies in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Minnesota and Missouri.

ACCREDITATION

Dan graduated from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. He also attended the American Press Institute, Reston, Va., the management studies program at Kellogg University, Chicago, Ill., and Leaderpoint Management Development Institute, Overland Park, Ks. He also taught at the Bloomsburg Journalism Institute, Bloomsburg, Penn., and at Ashland Community College, Ashland, Ky. Dan was an instructor for the Xerox Professional Selling Skills program and administrated it for several Ottaway newspapers.

INTERNATIONAL WORK

Dan’s assignments have taken him to countries such as Mexico, Panama, Australia, the UK and Dubai. He has also taught in the U.S. for companies such as General Mills, Nestle, Medtronic, Knutson Construction, the State of Missouri and Freeman Health System hospitals.
