I Choose Excitement, Laughter & Warmth
I love the coffee shop I visit every morning. The manager welcomes you in, the staff yells out your name and they really engage in motivating conversation. I believe that because the manager is so extroverted, the staff simulates that (if they aren’t that way already).
I visited another coffee shop recently. It’s the same franchise, but the manager barely speaks to you. He smiles, but never says very much. You would never know he is the manager, except it says it on his apron.
So now let’s talk about the team members. They are all very quiet. They simply stand in front of the toaster ovens or coffee makers and wait for an order to be placed. The place just lacks passion.
I have a few questions for you:
What is the atmosphere like where you work?
Do you have motivating music in the background (even if it’s quiet) to inspire people?
Do your people welcome clients/guests in when they visit?
Do you offer people a beverage or take them where they need to go?
Do you surprise and delight a person when they do business with you?
After answering these questions, are there any changes you should make?
